Summer Camp Session 5 (Aug 31 - Sept 4)
9:30AM | Become a Digital Comic Artist
Become a digital comic artist! Students will start by working with their instructor and their peers to create their own original characters and stories. They will then create basic storyboards of their comics. Once their storyboards are compete, they will create their comics digitally using digital drawing software.
Please create and set up a free Gravit account prior to class
Recommended Hardware: Drawing Tablet
If you do not own a drawing tablet, please ensure you have a mouse
9:30AM | Become a YouTuber
Running a YouTube channel is fun and not as difficult as you may think! Students will explore different styles of YouTube videos and decide what style they would each like to use for their channel. The class will then learn how to shoot and edit awesome videos with Davinci Resolve, a free and powerful video editing program. Finally, students will explore the process of uploading, tagging, properly labeling, and creating thumbnails for their videos!
Please note, as this is an online class, students will be responsible for shooting their videos outside of class. Class time will be spent on writing content for video and editing. Please note, students will need access to a device that can record video. Acceptable devices includes tablets, smartphones, point and shoot cameras with video capabilities, or camcorders.
Required Hardware: Recording Device (camera, phone, webcam etc)
9:30AM | Code Games with Scratch
Design and program video games using Scratch! Scratch is an MIT designed programming language that is specifically designed to make programming fun and easy. Students will start with the hour of code and then build several simple games to learn the ins and outs of how to program with Scratch. By the end of the class, students will have originally designed video games to share with friends and family!

9:30AM | Create 3D Games with Unity
Learn how to build a challenging platformer in 3D! Students will use Unity, a powerful game design tool, to explore what goes into the game design process. At first, the class will build a pre-designed level in their game as a group to learn the basics of Unity. Students will then get to design and build their own custom levels to add to their game. Each student will complete the class with a finished game that can be played on any computer.
Hardware: A 3 button mouse is required!

9:30AM | Create 3D Minecraft Animations with Blender
Model and animate Minecraft characters using professional 3D Animation software! Using Blender, a powerful and free 3D animation program, the class will explore the world of modeling, texturing and animation. Students will model originally designed Minecraft characters and texture them with any skin of their choosing. They will then, as a class, write and animate a short story that incorporates everyone's characters. Please note that this class is a 3D animation class and does not include playing Minecraft.
Software: Download and install Blender
9:30AM | Create Arcade Games with Java
Design and program original arcade-style video games using Java! Students will start by rebuilding pong in Processing, a programming environment specifically designed to handle graphics and interactivity. They will then as a class design, build, and test an original video game complete with characters, enemies, sound effects, music and more! From spaceship shooters to platform jumping battle games, the sky is the limit!
Software: Download and install Processing
9:30AM | Create Cartoons with Open Toonz
Have you ever wondered how to create moving images with nothing but your drawings? Jump in and get started with this class! Students will learn what it takes to create traditional hand-drawn animations with Open Toonz, a free illustration and cartooning program that is used by Studio Ghibli! Students will begin with the simple bouncing ball, to stick figures and finally onto a final project where they can add as much detail as they like.
Traditional Animation is a difficult subject, so to make the learning process easier, the objects drawn in this class will be simple. Students with significant drawing experience can elaborate on their projects.
Software: Download and install Open Toonz

9:30AM | Digital Photography
Become a photo editing wiz using Gimp, an open-source version of Photoshop. Students will explore different styles of Photography and photo composition, and apply the techniques they learn outside of class. They will then edit their images during class using Gimp, which functions just like Adobe Photoshop. Students will explore color correction, retouching, and compositing.
