Ages 9-12

Running a YouTube channel is fun and not as difficult as you may think! Students will explore different styles of YouTube videos and decide what style they would each like to use for their channel. The class will then learn how to shoot and edit awesome videos with Davinci Resolve, a free and powerful video editing program. Finally, students will explore the process of uploading, tagging, properly labeling, and creating thumbnails for their videos! Please note, as this is an online class, students will be responsible for shooting their videos outside of class. Class time will be spent on writing content for video and editing.

Please note, students will need access to a device that can record video. Acceptable devices includes tablets, smartphones, point and shoot cameras with video capabilities, or camcorders.

Software: Download and install Davinci Resolve and Gimp

Software for Screen Recording: OBS Studio (Windows), Quicktime (Mac)

Required Hardware: Recording Device (camera, phone, webcam etc)

Ages 7-10

Design and program video games using Scratch! Scratch is an MIT designed programming language that is specifically designed to make programming fun and easy. Students will start with the hour of code and then build several simple games to learn the ins and outs of how to program with Scratch. By the end of the class, students will have originally designed video games to share with friends and family!

9:30AM | Create Cartoons with Open Toonz

Ages 12-16

Have you ever wondered how to create moving images with nothing but your drawings? Jump in and get started with this class! Students will learn what it takes to create traditional hand-drawn animations with Open Toonz, a free illustration and cartooning program that is used by Studio Ghibli! Students will begin with the simple bouncing ball, to stick figures and finally onto a final project where they can add as much detail as they like.

Traditional Animation is a difficult subject, so to make the learning process easier, the objects drawn in this class will be simple. Students with significant drawing experience can elaborate on their projects.

Software: Download and install Open Toonz

Recommended Hardware: Drawing Tablet

If you do not own a drawing tablet, please ensure you have a mouse.

9:30AM | Create Graphics with Python (Intermediate)

Prerequisite: Intro to Python or Intermediate Python

Ages 9-12

Create interactive visual projects using code. Using Processing, a programming environment specifically designed to handle graphics, students will use Python to create a variety of different interactive, visual projects and even games. The class builds on the skills developed in Intro to Programming with Python and applies them to a whole new world of projects. Students can expect to complete this class with several original projects. Students will need to use previous Python experience, plus creativity & problem solving skills!

Learn to design and build original objects and create awesome 3D objects using TinkerCAD! Create products that solve real-world problems! This class is allabout innovation. TinkerCAD is AutoDesk's 100% open source software, so students can continue to create even after camp is over.

Design and program original arcade-style video games using Java! Students will start by rebuilding pong in Processing, a programming environment specifically designed to handle graphics and interactivity. They will then as a class design, build, and test an original video game complete with characters, enemies, sound effects, music and more! From spaceship shooters to platform jumping battle games, the sky is the limit!

Take your knowledge of creating Minecraft Animations in Blender to the next level! As a class, you'll develop a story, and working together, everyone will develop a role and animate their character within the story. It's the ultimate Minecraft animation collaboration!

9:30AM | Minecraft Space Builders

Ages 9-12

Whether you have taken Minecraft City Builders at The DAE or this is your first Minecraft class with us, you are sure to have an exciting adventure in building space habitats in Minecraft! Students will learn about space habitats and what required to allow astronauts to live on another planet! They will then, as a team, design and build their ideal space habitat in our private Minecraft Server! Please note, a Mac or PC with the Java edition of Minecraft is required to attend this class. Chromebooks, iPads, and XBox will not be able to access The DAE server.
