Learn the basics of Java by creating amazing interactive projects! Java is the most commonly used programming language in the world - even Minecraft was programmed in Java! This class will explore Java using Processing, a program used to create graphics with code. From creating simple drawings to interactive animated projects, this class will provide a solid foundation in using Java. Students should expect to complete a variety of projects during this class.

Ages 9-12

Create interactive text adventure games, quizzes and more with Python. Python is an ideal starter language because it is easy to write, easy to read and is used in the real world, in fact, the entire backend of YouTube is written in Python! Students will start with writing simple projects to develop familiarity with the language and move onto creating interactive text-based games and even drawing with code!

Ages 12-16

Bring the production value of your YouTube Channel to the next level in YouTube Creator Studio! Students will explore the tricks and techniques used to create quality content on YouTube and build a following. Class time will be spent writing & developing content, editing, and exploring the best way to engage with your audience. Editing will be done with Davinci Resolve, a free and powerful video editing program.

Please note, as this is an online class, shooting will be done outside of class time. Please note, students will need access to a device that can record video. Acceptable devices includes tablets, smartphones, point and shoot cameras with video capabilities, or camcorders.

Software: Download and install Davinci Resolve and Gimp

Software for Screen Recording: OBS Studio (Windows), Quicktime (Mac)

Required Hardware: Recording Device (camera, phone, webcam etc)

Ages 9-12

Running a YouTube channel is fun and not as difficult as you may think! Students will explore different styles of YouTube videos and decide what style they would each like to use for their channel. The class will then learn how to shoot and edit awesome videos with Davinci Resolve, a free and powerful video editing program. Finally, students will explore the process of uploading, tagging, properly labeling, and creating thumbnails for their videos!

Please note, as this is an online class, students will be responsible for shooting their videos outside of class. Class time will be spent on writing content for video and editing. Please note, students will need access to a device that can record video. Acceptable devices includes tablets, smartphones, point and shoot cameras with video capabilities, or camcorders.

Design and program video games using Scratch! Scratch is an MIT designed programming language that is specifically designed to make programming fun and easy. Students will start with the hour of code and then build several simple games to learn the ins and outs of how to program with Scratch. By the end of the class, students will have originally designed video games to share with friends and family!

Ages 12-16

Learn how to build a challenging platformer in 3D! Students will use Unity, a powerful game design tool, to explore what goes into the game design process. At first, the class will build a pre-designed level in their game as a group to learn the basics of Unity. Students will then get to design and build their own custom levels to add to their game. Each student will complete the class with a finished game that can be played on any computer.

Software: Download and Install UnityBlender and Gimp

Hardware: A 3 button mouse is required

Optional Hardware: VR Headset

Model and animate Minecraft characters using professional 3D Animation software! Using Blender, a powerful and free 3D animation program, the class will explore the world of modeling, texturing and animation. Students will model originally designed Minecraft characters and texture them with any skin of their choosing. They will then, as a class, write and animate a short story that incorporates everyone's characters. Please note that this class is a 3D animation class and does not include playing Minecraft.

Ages 12-16

Design and program original arcade-style video games using Java! Students will start by rebuilding pong in Processing, a programming environment specifically designed to handle graphics and interactivity. They will then as a class design, build, and test an original video game complete with characters, enemies, sound effects, music and more! From spaceship shooters to platform jumping battle games, the sky is the limit!
